Rithika Pandey

Rithika Pandey at Saatchi Gallery

“My practice is a world-building practice, where I draw from mythology and science fiction to create alternative visions of worlds that transgress trauma and catastrophe as an end point.

The Mumbai based painter Rithika Pandey has works in a group show at Saatchi Gallery.  The Walls Between Us, explores the notion of ‘home’ through the perspective of 12 artists. This complexity is summarised by the untranslatable Welsh word ‘Hiraeth’ (good name for a band)*, which combines feelings of nostalgia, a longing for somewhere more than a space and a heart wrenching homesickness towards something or somewhere which is lost forever.

Rithika is an extremely talented artist who I first met during a solo-exhibition at Grosvenor Gallery in 2022.  She produces complicated and emotionally charged paintings, which speak of her lived experiences.  Rithika exhibits with Chemould CoLab in Mumbai, and this show is held by Sota Marketplace.

We wandered around the show and she talked about the body of work, and the new direction her paintings are taking.
